These psycho cases
Two patients in a psychiatric hospital who believed they are unfairly admitted in the hospital planned to break free. Their plan was to tie down the gate-man, break the locks and gain their freedom. On getting to the gate, the gate-man was not at the gate and the gate was wide open. The two looked at each other with disappointment written all over their faces. "That's bad, the plan is flopped, we'll have to try at another time" and with that they went back into the hospital.
One then wonders when the psycho stories will end. Or how do we justify the killing of no fewer than 25 people by unknown gunmen in Adamawa?. Barely four days after the bombings in Kano which left scores dead, gunmen struck at the headquarters of Ganye local government, Adamawa. The gunmen who walked around the town unchallenged first struck at the divisional police
station which was set ablaze before proceeding to the prisons where the
inmates were set free and the building also set on fire. I can't agree less with Tolu Ogunlesi, it's indeed a country of helpless people.
Since no casualty was recorded, the explosion that rocked the Church of the Lord Aladura, Ijero branch went almost unreported. Members of the church which was located 64 Brickfield, off Apapa road Ebute Metta, had a night vigil on Friday 22nd March and early in the morning just hours after the vigil, kabooom! the church went up in smoke. Security agents confirmed that the inferno was as a result of an explosive, but that's all we'll hear about the blast.
It will be recalled that security agents arrested persons believed to be members of a terrorist cell planning to unleash terror on Lagos on Friday.
And I can't cease to ask, when will this madness end, when shall these psycho cases cease?
The above scenario may be justified by the fact that the two were patients, possibly with a lingering psychiatric disorder. But how do we justify it when the parties involved are the personnel that are the last hope of a deranged man?
Some members of the Senior Staff
Association of Psychiatric Hospital, Uselu, Benin, Edo State, have
blamed the institution’s Chief Medical Director, Dr. Sunday Olotu, for
their inability to honour an invitation by the State Security Service.
The union is claiming that the CMD refused its executive a written permission, while hospital management insists that the union did not request for such. So, the verbal permission granted the excos wasn't enough, therefore a reason for chaos.
Chaos, that's what the Akwa Ibom state governor seems to be embroiling himself in since being conferred with the leadership of PDP governors in the country. The governor was recently alleged of spending 1milion Naira at a fast food to entertain some folks. Now, he has publicly admitted to rigging a primary election in his state in favour of Senator Alloysus.
It sounds like a psycho news, giving that the utterance was made during the visit of the National Good Governance Tour. Good governance indeed!

Chinua Achebe dies at 82: things fall apart!
Chinua Achebe dies at 82 and it sounds like a tragedy. He wrote his magnum opus at 28, an inverse of the age he died. The country had 54 years of pure African storytelling from the man that understood the trade of tale. So wasn't 54 years enough for a country to have learnt from the Iroko tree before it fell?
Having Chinua around for a hundred more years would have been a blessing to humanity. He was one of the few, I still ponder who the second is, that perfected the tale of African story telling with great dexterity and top-notch use of efficient English Language that amuse all class and cadre of readers.
When we bow our heads in sorrow to mourn Achebe, it's not because the father of African literature didn't do enough, but we ask the simply sad question "who shall tell the tale now that the story teller is gone"? Is it those elders who refer to their "oga at the top" for an ordinary website address? Or the elders of the land who perpetrate evil acts and corrupt the soul of the younger generations yet they walk the streets unchallenged. Those who are challenged, caught and condemned are given the pardon to go and do much more.
Who again shall tell us a story, now that "Things fall apart"? Who will show us "The man of the people"? Who will tell us the tale of how "The arrow of god" strikes. we are "No Longer at Ease" for Achebe is dead!
Death tells us of the brevity of human existence, but Achebe told the story of existence, short or long. Death might have killed men and nations, Chinua told the stories.
In a generation filled with men of easy virtues and cheap claims to stardom, Achebe rejected two national honours and clamoured, until his death, for a corruption-free governance. Although several others claim to fight for the same cause but Achebe has made us see beyond the façade of mediocrity that they parade. His intellectual depth is one vital attribute that most Nigerian leaders, dead and living, lacked that led us to where we are today.
Achebe remain a true icon worthy of emulation in life and death. If we are to measure values, not in terms of Naira and Kobo, then to see a man like Achebe again Nigeria may search in vain.
Rest in peace, Chinua Achebe!

The selection and announcement of the new leader of the over 1 billion Catholics worldwide was necessitated by the surprised resignation of Pope Emeritus Benedict VI.
