Explosion rocks Lagos: 1 dead, 40 injured, 10 houses razed

It was Xmas went awry at a market in Idumota area of Lagos Island on Tuesday when a store believed to be stockpiled with fireworks went up in flames. The explosion according to National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA,killed one person, injured 40 others while about 10 houses were razed.


Ibrahim Farinloye, the NEMA South-West spokesperson, confirmed that the dead body was recovered after the explosion.
About 10 houses – mostly three-storey buildings – were severely destroyed by the explosion in the Idumota area of Lagos.
Fire fighters are still struggling to put out the inferno.
A spokesperson of the Lagos Fire and Safety Services said that they arrived 30 minutes after the explosion but the crowd at the scene hindered their operation.
